Several countries have taken the challenge to introduce competition into their electricity sectors. One of the most difficult issues to be solved concerns security of supply.
The fundamental question is whether or not a “free” electricity market will be able to create enough peak load capacity. If this indeed is a problem, do we need more regulation or do we find the solution in flexible demand or in new market instruments?
To shed some light on this issue, Market Design arranged its first international two-day conference.
Most material from the conference is available online.
