This report studies retail margins in the Nordic electricity market and assesses the likely effects on margins of the creation of an integrated Nordic end-user market for electricity. The report's main conclusion is that an integrated Nordic market will not have a substantial effect on retail margins. Firstly, retail margins are not particularly large for most customers. Secondly, competitive pressure is not likely to increase significantly. The national markets are not very concentrated and the competitive pressure in the market is primarily determined by search- and switching costs. These are not affected by the creation of a Nordic market.
